Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years following that as general reporter. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared as an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. She was part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She has covered several notable reports over time, including fiscal reform, the budget and The Iran Contra saga. She travelled frequently together with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
